Heritage Tree Services

"My unbiased and professional dedication will promote the science of good arboricultural practice as a priority and I aim to give my utmost to a highly informed organisation from which abundant benefits will be available through our engagement."

Hugo Loudon tells us his mission statement for the company, along with the nitty gritty information and newsletter download.

Mission Statement

Hugo writes "managing the continuing evolution of our green infrastructure (urban arboriculture, forestry) requires a huge insight into harmonising humans and trees to co-exist and managing an extraordinary resource, trees being the longest living organisms in the world. I regularly face the challenges of tree risk assessment, disease, disorders (the UK suffering a massive onslaught of current issues) and have to harmonise ecology, commercial and corporate burdens on the tree landscape and find solutions from a small back garden to a huge estate.

"Our sustainable arboricultural approach and proven results, I believe, is verging on pioneering. I am extremely proud that, during 2013, we have completed a huge amount of diverse and interesting projects. The regeneration of the fragile treescape is a dedication and life pursuit of mine - some people climb mountains or sail the oceans; I personally plant trees."

"My unbiased and professional dedication will promote the science of good arboricultural practice as a priority and I aim to give my utmost to a highly informed organisation from which abundant benefits will be available through our engagement."

Conservation

Our environmental contentious responsibility goes hand in hand with our legal wildlife responsibilities when working with trees or tree communities and associated habitats. The need for conservation stretches far beyond the amenity pleasures of such managed areas. Society has stretched and exhausted many such wildlife resources. Our role at Heritage Tree Services Ltd is to provide such management, often working with, or under, the guidance from statutory UK bodies such as The Environment Agency, DEFRA, Natural England, English Heritage or the National Trust.

Our Staff

Managing Director

Hugo’s passion for tree planting and related design is deep rooted and relates to his extensive career that started with forestry with his grandfather as a teenager in Holland. Having found a vocation at an early career stage, he continued by following a successful intensive Arboricultural Profession as an advanced tree climber, multi discipline project manager, tree relocation expert and eventually Consultant. Currently leading a team of 15, he leads the consulting and design teams and now surveys and reports on tree health and safety, pre and post development planning and of course designing of tree schemes.

About Safety at Heritage

Heritage Tree Services is Arboricultural Association approved. This entails a vigorous examination of not only knowledge and working practices, but safe procedures in what is a particularly dangerous industry. The thorough understanding of procedure, both personal and team-safety, is an essential prerequisite, so that our valued clients are able to be rest-assured that all works will be carefully carried out. All works will be carried out in regards to personal safety and property.

We thoroughly brief our team on each job/project, including written specifications, supervision and backup from the office. The majority of staff are qualified with a current First Aid award and virtually every piece of equipment used on a job, from a chainsaw to a digger, will have a certified operator, who has been examined in safe use of this machine.

Each and every job/project has a detailed Risk Assessment and Method Statement. This is aligned, and refers back, to our Health and Safety Policy, which is comprehensive and covers every topic of activity from a simple workshop maintenance operation to felling large trees close to roads and buildings. The Health and Safety Document incorporates Industry Code of Practice and Arboricultural Association guidance notes. Subjects covered are carefully followed, such as the LOLER, PUWER and RIDDOR Regulations. Specific details are available upon request.

We also have a responsibility to ensure an adherence to The Wildlife And Countryside Act (1981 as amended), or The Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations (2010) in the UK that may be encountered before or during arboricultural operations. We have £10 million Public/Products Liability Insurance with Zurich Insurance plc and £2 million Professional Indemnity with Catlin Insurance Company (UK) Ltd.
