Method Statements

The Arboricultural Method Statement is required to provide methodology for tree protection during any developmental projects. The Arborist provides advice and compliance guidelines for development proposals from inception to completion during the following stages:

Tree Survey - detailed report and preliminary constraints advice;

Design Assessment - feedback regarding proposals;

Tree Protection Implementation - methodology complying to BS5837 (2012);

Project Monitoring - visits during construction ensuring adherence to protection measures;

Discharge of relevant Planning Conditions for Local Authorities.

Tree Health

To fulfil tree owner's responsibilities, Arboricultural surveys assess structural integrity, root health, disorders and disease, physiological conditions and provide a detailed report on health and safety. The majority of the surveys are visual tree assessments (VTA) and if necessary, more detailed internal investigations can be carried out by Resistograph, Picus and Air Spade. Aerial inspections are also used for the collation of detailed information.

Resistograph Test

The Resistograph uses a 19" long drill, which is inserted on various points around the stem and major buttress flares. This indicates resistance through the cambium, trunk and even the roots. The measurement is recorded via a needle onto a paper readout and will clearly diagnose solid, healthy wood versus hollow and decayed wood, confirming safety or instability.

Picus Test

The Picus Sonic Tomograph measures the speed that sound waves travel from one point to another through a tree trunk. Sound waves are constant in solid wood yet give a much slower reading through decaying wood. Computer images provide the Arborist with confirmation of health and stability of the tree.

Air Spade

The use of compressed air, via an airgun, removes soil without damage to tree roots, allowing examination of underground anatomy and the identification of disorders, decay or root structural compromise. We also carry out decompaction works and verti-mulching to assist aeration and general efficient exchange of gases and moisture in the soil.

Tree Diseases

Heritage Tree Services provides identification of tree diseases such as Pathogens that can cause trees to fail in adverse weather. 'Fungi/fruiting bodies' refer to any spore bearing structure on a stalk (like a toadstool) or attached directly to the tree (a 'bracket' fungus). These can be harmful (cause disease - pathogenic), harmless (living on material already dead - saprophytic) or beneficial (symbiotic) to the tree.

Our Mantra

Our conscious responsibility towards one of the world's most valuable natural resources ensures thorough, professional, devoted commitment, helping tree owners to understand the silent physiological needs of trees. Harmonising the treescape with the built-up urban environment requires a dedication above and before financial considerations.
